2022 Petrichor Chardonnay

The Petrichor Chardonnay is LL Vineyard’s single block Chardonnay. The word ‘petrichor’ is used to describe the breezy scent of rain, particularly when falling on the soil. This name is fitting for this corner of the vineyard as it is the last part to heat up during the summer and where the earthy aroma after rain lingers longest. The coolest block of chardonnay produces the fruit with the greatest depth of flavour and finest structure.  

The hand harvested fruit was whole bunch pressed to retain the pristine fruit characters and minimise phenolic extraction. The juice was then transferred to French oak barrels, 20% of which were new, for fermentation and maturation on lees, with monthly stirring, for 10 months prior to bottling in March 2023.
